The challenge
Designing an international conference that positions the Aflaj irrigation systems as a subject of serious scholarly and public interest, not just a local heritage curiosity.

The impact
90 attendees, from students and academics to field experts, joined a dozen speakers from Morocco, Spain, France, Saudi Arabia, and Greece to advance research on ancient water management systems and their relevance to today’s climate challenges
